I Hate Weeding

I am lucky enough to have a partner who loves yard work.

Unfortunately that wonderful, incredibly patient man is also a Tax Man, and is incognito until April 15, but the weeds don't know that.  So, every spring, the boys and I start the yearly clean-up of our yard.  It's the least we can do since he works 16 hours a day, 7 days a week.  I dread the chore at first, but as I get into a rhythm, it's wonderfully satisfying and cathartic.  Am I that messed up that I find writing material amongst the weeds?!

After a full day of weeding, my hands represent my future 80 year old self, and my back complains louder than my hands......now on to the laundry with a head cleared of weeds just like the yard.

What are your chore comparisons?

Weeding is the one joy I have in life. I hate weeds. I love pulling them. I visited the famous Tyler Rose Garden a year or so ago and realized that, by the time I had reached the end of the first long row of roses, I had pulled every week along the way. When I'm pulling weeks, I'm alone, no one every bothers me, and the phone never rings. If it does, I'm nowhere near it, and I like it that way.

The meditative qualities of weeding, I like, but as with everything else, the fact that the weeds grow back, and I must repeat the task makes me dread it. You sound just like my husband, Caleb. That is exactly how he describes his love of his yard. I'm more of a project person...I like getting one section of the yard done at a time - Project Complete! (The picture shows my last section of weeds needing pulling before my job is done.)
Thanks again for your visit, and words of wisdom!
